Hi, I’m Scott. I’ve been playing guitar for 30 years; music has been a huge part of my life. I started playing when I was 9 years old – I asked my mum to sign me up for group guitar lessons at school as I’d seen some older kids play their guitars in an assembly at school.
It wasn’t easy for me at first, I remember not being able to play some chords when the other kids in my group could. I never gave up. I kept practising and slowly but surely I was able to play more and grow in confidence.

When I started discovering more bands I realised that I could play a lot of the songs I liked. The first album I bought (on cassette!) was Oasis – What’s The Story. I was able to play along with the music like I was in the band!
At secondary school I discovered bands like Nirvana, Green Day and Blink182; this is when I really fell in love with music. I started my first band aged 13 – my friends and I would rehearse in a barn and cover songs by these bands.
Soon we began to write our own songs and play gigs around the West Midlands.
Playing music is a great way to meet like minded people and make new friends. A band we were friends with called “The Fight” had just signed a deal with MCA/Geffen records and were looking for a new guitarist. They asked me. Within a few months I off to the USA playing on a 6 week tour, aged 17.
Managed by Gary Ashley (ex A&R for Blink182), we had a top 100 single, recorded at Maida Vale Studios for BBC Radio One, music videos on Kerrang! and MTV, played Warped Tour 2005, and other tours around North America, UK, Europe and Japan.

After a couple of years working as a Tour Manager for bands, in 2007, I began teaching music – guitar lessons and band building workshops. I got so much enjoyment from passing on my knowledge and inspiring others.
Music has given me so much – not just how to play an instrument but what it has taught me about myself. Patience, self-discipline, confidence, self-belief.
Seeing someone smile after they’re able to play something… it never gets old.
Learning an instrument is not a race – go at your own pace, enjoy the journey!
